Wordpool 2014 – Starts Wednesday 2nd July!

Wordpool 2014 will take place in Blackpool on 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th July 2014, starting with a very special twilight event on Weds 2nd July and ending with a fun filled ‘Giants’ Family Day in Stanley Park on Sat 5th July.

This year’s festival launches on Wednesday 2 July with a fundraising evening of Murder, Mystery and Martinis, in Stanley Park’s wonderful Art Deco Café. Entertainment includes crime writing revelations from best selling authors Ann Cleeves (Author of the Vera Stanhope & Shetland novels) and Peter Robinson (DCI Banks).

The festival continues with events and workshops from some of the best literary talent around today including Sophie Hannah, Lindsey Davis, Emma Healey, Terry Caffrey, Jon Wallace and Polly Atkin as well as a DIY Publishing Workshop with Lisa Wigham from 2am Press.

Blackpool Arts & Libraries Festival of Words 2014 Poetry Competition Rules

POEMS – open to anyone over the age of 16 years living in the UK

  • The subject for entries is “Light”.
  • Poems must be the original work of the poet.
  • Up to a maximum of 3 poems may be submitted.
  • Closing date for entries is midnight on August 4th 2014.
  • Entries should be written in English and typed.
  • Entries must not be published, self published, published on a website or broadcast before October 2nd 2014 and not currently entered into any other poetry competition.
  • Poems must be no more than 32 lines and typed on one side of A4. Include only the poem title and the poem, do not include your name or contact details.
  • The poet’s name, email and telephone number and titles of all entries must be clearly entered on the entry form and the form sent in with your poem(s).
  • Entries may be made emailed to artsdevelopment@blackpool.gov.uk   or hand in at any Blackpool Library or send in by post to Arts Development, Central Library, Queen Street, Blackpool FY1 1PX . To download the entry form after 9am on 7th July 2014: http://blackpoolwordpool.wordpress.com
  • No correspondence can be entered into and the decision of the judge is final.

FEES

  • Entry fee is £3 for one poem, £6 for 2 poems, £7.50 for 3 poems.
  • Payment can be enclosed with the entry form, cheques to be made payable to Blackpool Council or online through eventbrite, http://blackpoolwordpool.wordpress.com

WINNERS

1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize Winners will be notified in advance and invited to attend a launch event on National poetry Day (2nd October 2014). Competition Judge, Polly Atkin will announce the prize winners at the launch event and the winning poem will be “switched on” in light in Blackpool’s world famous Illuminations. All prize winners will be invited to read their poems at the event.

1st prize – £100 plus your poem displayed in light in Blackpool’s Illuminations (from 2.10.14 to 9.11.14) 2nd prize – £75, 3rd prize – £50

Wordpool Festival reserves the right to display the winning entry in lights at the 2014 Illuminations and publish winning entries on the internet for up to a year from 2.10.14 and they may be read out and/or posted on radio/TV and in other local media at any time, all without payment of a fee. Copyright remains with the authors. Wordpool Festival is the organiser of the competition and reserves the right not to award prizes.
